who tone is for

the basics

what your pelvic floor actually does

your pelvic floor is a structure of muscles and tissue running from your pubic bone to your tailbone. it supports your bladder, uterus and rectum, and it works quietly every day without you thinking about it.

like any muscle group, it weakens without use. pregnancy, childbirth, surgery, ageing and the hormonal changes of perimenopause all reduce its tone.

and like any muscle group, it responds to resistance. the same strength also makes orgasm more intense, because orgasm is a series of pelvic floor contractions and a stronger muscle contracts harder.

the problem with kegels done on their own is that there is no feedback. you cannot see the muscle and you cannot tell whether you are engaging the right one. a weight solves that. your body grips it automatically, you feel exactly which muscles are working, and you feel it get easier as they get stronger.

seven levels. one set.

four balls, two straps, and every useful combination in between, plus a final level with no strap at all. white is 30g, orange is 40g, red is 50g, so you can read the load in your hand without looking anything up.

30g
110mm strap
starting point. learning where the muscle is.
40g
110mm strap
same shape, slightly more to hold.
50g
110mm strap
the heaviest single ball. holding it takes real effort.
60g
160mm strap
two balls. more surface to grip, more weight to carry.
70g
160mm strap
the step most people spend the longest on.
80g
160mm strap
close to full load. control is holding steady while you move.
90g
160mm strap
the top of the set. if you can walk with this, the work is done.
90g
no strap
the final step. once you can hold the full load on the strap without effort, remove it and let the balls sit free.

two straps, not one

one for a single ball. one for two.

most kegel sets ship a single retrieval strap, and it is almost always the two ball size. which means every beginner spends their entire first stage on hardware built for a load they are not carrying yet. loose, longer than it needs to be, and the ball shifts when it should stay put.

tone ships two. the 110mm strap holds one ball and sits close. the 160mm strap holds two. you use the one that matches where you are, from the first session to the last.

why a weighted set

tone vs kegels on your own.

kegels on your own cost nothing, and that is their appeal. the catch: you can't see the muscle, so you never know if you are squeezing the right one. a weight you can feel fixes that, and a set of levels keeps it working as you get stronger.

how to use

  1. 1
clean and lubricate. wash the balls before first use. apply a water based lubricant to the ball, not the strap.
  2. 2
insert. lie down or stand, whichever feels easier. insert the ball and leave the strap outside.
  3. 3
contract. squeeze your pelvic floor around the ball. hold, release, repeat.
  4. 4
build up. start at ten minutes. work toward thirty minutes maximum.
  5. 5
remove. relax completely and pull gently on the strap.

how deep is deep enough

insert until the vaginal entrance closes behind the ball, roughly 2cm in, with the strap outside. that is the whole depth cue. if you push further, the muscles you are trying to train cannot grip the ball properly and the session does nothing. shallow is better than deep.

what a contraction feels like

it is the same muscle you would use to stop yourself from passing gas. not your glutes, not your abs, not your thighs. if those are tightening, ease off and find the smaller movement.

if it slips out

that is the set working as designed. it means the load is above where you are today. drop to the next weight down and come back to it.

if it will not come out

relax completely first, tension is what holds it in. if it still resists, apply a little water based lubricant, then stand up and walk, cough or jump in place. gravity and a sharp contraction will move it. you can also hook a finger behind the ball and draw it down gently. take your time, there is no rush and no danger.
